守谷史男 / MORIYA Fumio

Fumio Moriya, born in 1938 and hailing from Tokyo, is a member of the Action Art Association and a professor at Osaka University of Arts. After studying in the United States, he shifted to abstract painting, incorporating American painting trends while maintaining his unique approach to abstract expression. His series works, such as "Traces" and "Borders," masterfully express different periods and concepts, combining rich colors with diverse forms. The intriguing elements of square and triangular combinations add depth to his creations.
The exhibited pieces, “Byo A" and “Byo B," draw inspiration from Moriya's impressions of tombs and ancient mounds during a trip to South Korea. These works exhibit a refined yet distinctively folkloric and earthy ambiance, showcasing Moriya's artistic prowess.
